Embrace the barriers

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it, and embrace them." ~ Rumi

Rumi, who lived hundreds of years ago, was wise enough to realize that we must love ourselves before we can be loved by others. To embrace the barriers we have built to protect us from the potential pain of loving someone, means that we accept those barriers, forgive ourselves for building the barriers in the first place, and then proceed to tear down the barriers.

While we may not claim to be members of the same religious organization as Rumi, one cannot deny the universal threads in his writings.
